The annual HollyFest celebration was held Saturday, October
28 at Womble Park. The weather was perfect for a day out with
the family, and police estimate between 6,500 and 7,000 people
attended this year's festival. There were 90 arts and crafts
and business booths as well as 14 food vendors.
There was also
a children's area with rides and games, a hay maze, animal
races and performances by musical and dance groups.
The festivities kicked off early, with a pancake breakfast
at 7 a.m. and a 5k run at 8 a.m. Some highlights of the day
included the Turbo Turtle Trec, reenactments by the NC 26th
Regiment and cheering farm animals to victory at the Hogway
Speedway. The fire and police departments were on hand with
fire engines and McGruff the Crime Dog.
Kids could enjoy rock climbing, carnival rides and bounce
houses and slides.
There were also haunted houses later in the evening at the
Hunt Community Center.
The day came to an explosive and colorful end with a fireworks
show at 8:30 p.m. Everyone had a great time at HollyFest and
can't wait for next year!
